Podgorica Airport Car Hire

Montenegro's inland hub — budget carriers, year-round schedule.

Collecting Your Car at Podgorica Airport (TGD)

TGD handles an increasing share of Montenegro's air traffic, particularly budget carriers. Ryanair and Wizz Air operate seasonal routes from across Europe, while Air Serbia maintains a daily Belgrade connection year-round. If your flight lands at TGD instead of TIV, collecting a car here and driving to the coast is straightforward — the Sozina tunnel puts you on the bay in 90 minutes.

The airport opened a new terminal building in 2006; the old terminal now functions as a small aviation museum. The IATA code TGD references the city's former name, Titograd. The airport sits 12 km south of the city centre, connected by the main highway.

Distances and Drive Times

TGD is 12 km south of Podgorica centre, well-connected to the national road network:

  • Podgorica centre: 15 minutes (taxi about 10 EUR)
  • Tivat / Bay of Kotor: 90 minutes via Sozina tunnel (toll ~3.50 EUR)
  • Budva: 75 minutes via Sozina tunnel and Radanovici road
  • Kolasin (ski resort): 80 km north, roughly 75 minutes

Airlines and Routes

Year-round: Air Serbia (Belgrade daily), occasional Ryanair and Wizz Air winter schedules. Summer peak: Ryanair (London Stansted, Milan Bergamo, Brussels Charleroi), Wizz Air (Vienna, Budapest, Dortmund, Memmingen), TUI charters. Seasonal routes to Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, and Vienna also operate. Check airline schedules — frequency drops sharply from October to April.

Terminal Layout

TGD is a single-terminal airport with eight departure gates, two arrival gates, and roughly 5,500 m² of floor space. The car park holds 600+ vehicles with 25,000 m² of surface area — parking is never a problem here. Inside: a cafe, duty-free shop, ATM, and bureau de change.

Despite its modest size, TGD won the ACI Europe award for best airport under one million passengers — a recognition of its clean facilities and efficient layout.

Car Pickup Process

Walk out of the arrivals hall and our agent meets you at the car park with your keys and documents. No shuttle bus, no off-site depot. Your car is right there. If you are driving to the coast, head south and follow signs for Virpazar / Sozina — the tunnel entrance is about 40 minutes from TGD. Fill up in Podgorica before entering the tunnel; fuel stations on the mountain route are infrequent.
