Exit the airport, take the Vrmac tunnel, hit the riviera in 25 minutes.

Budva — 25 Minutes via the Vrmac Tunnel

From TIV, take the main road south toward Budva. After 3 km you enter the Vrmac tunnel, emerge on the far side at the Tivat–Budva junction, and continue through Radanovici toward the coast. The Radanovici Petrol station is the last fuel stop before the riviera — fill up here if your tank is low. Total drive time from the airport to Budva's Old Town: roughly 25 minutes outside peak traffic.

In July and August, the final stretch through Becici into Budva can slow to a crawl during afternoon hours. If you are heading to Jaz Beach or points north of town, take the Jaz turnoff before the main Budva junction — it bypasses the worst of the summer congestion entirely.

Beaches Worth the Drive

The Budva Riviera stretches 21 km south from Jaz Beach to Petrovac. Key stops along the coastal road:

  • Mogren: Two cove beaches connected by a tunnel carved through the cliff, walking distance from Budva Old Town. Loungers and a bar operate May–September
  • Jaz: A large sandy bay 3 km before Budva town. Free parking in the upper lot, paid near the water. Hosts summer music events
  • Sveti Stefan: The postcard island village 6 km south of Budva. The mainland Milocer beach is public; the island itself is a luxury hotel. Best photographed from the road above
  • Becici: A long, gently sloping sand beach between Budva and Sveti Stefan. Family-friendly, lifeguarded in season, ample paid parking

Budva Old Town

The walled peninsula is compact enough to walk in 15 minutes. Enter through the main gate on the landward side, loop through the cobblestone streets, and exit at the Citadela for a view south toward Sveti Stefan. Restaurants inside the walls charge a premium — locals eat at the places one block inland from the gate. Evening parking along the quay is easier to find than daytime spots.

Day Trips by Car

Drive 6 km south on the coastal road to the Sveti Stefan viewpoint. The pull-off is on the right, marked by a stone wall. From there, walk down to Milocer beach (public, free entry). The Queen's Beach next door requires a hotel pass.

Head back through the Vrmac tunnel to Kotor — 25 minutes in reverse. Combine with Perast and the bay road for a full-day loop: Budva > Kotor > Perast > Verige ferry > Herceg Novi > back via the coastal road.

The inland mountain road to Lovcen National Park starts near Cetinje. Allow 90 minutes from Budva. The Njegos Mausoleum sits at 1,657 metres — carry a jacket even in summer. The winding road has no guardrails in places, so daylight driving is strongly advised.

Parking and Fuel

Budva has two main paid car parks: the underground lot near the Old Town walls and the open lot behind the bus station. Both fill by mid-morning in summer. Free street parking exists along the Becici road but requires a 10-minute walk. The nearest fuel station to Budva centre is on the main road at the Becici exit; the Radanovici station is more convenient if you are heading back to TIV.
